We are currently seeking to fill the position of:
ECOLODGE CAMP MANAGER
The Aye-Aye Forest Camp, a new ecolodge located on Antongil Bay in NE Madagascar is looking for a full-time camp manager.
The camp is located on a beach on the edge of the Forêt Classée de Farankaraina, a 3,000 hectare rainforest reserve,
and is a 45 minute boat ride from Maroantsetra.
As camp manager, you will have a critical role in the successful opening and ongoing operations of the camp.
You will live on-site and be flexible about time off based on when guests are present.
You must be honest, hard-working, organized, creative, independent, and passionate about offering unforgettable experiences to camp guests.
Your primary responsibilities will be to:
- Manage the day-to-day activities of the camp, ensuring that the camp runs efficiently.
- Meet with camp guests to provide quality customer service by understanding and addressing their special requests and concerns
in a prompt and effective manner.
- Supervise, train, and manage the camp staff, working with them to continually improve how the camp is run.
Ensure that staff are treated fairly, are motivated, are able to learn and develop their skills, and provide feedback for improvement.
- Manage staff scheduling, payroll and daily and weekly meetings.
- Manage the camp’s budget, tracking occupancy, staffing, performing stock control and orders, monitoring expenses, and regular reporting.
- Inspect, evaluate and ensure the camp’s cleanliness, food quality and presentation meet or exceed expectations.
- Maintain relationships with leaders of nearby communities and community organizations,
to ensure they continue to support the camp and guest activities.
- Work closely with the camp’s owners to ensure the camp experience meets their expectations.
- Schedule and oversee maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Constantly look for ways to further “green” initiatives and operations while not compromising the guest experience.
Minimum requirements
- A degree in hotel management, or similar, with a clear understanding and passion for guest experience.
- Eight years work experience with a minimum of four years in the tourism/hospitality industry, preferably in an outdoor remote setting.
- At least one year of experience leading a team of four or more direct reports, with experience training, setting job expectations,
coaching, and holding people accountable.
- A working knowledge of French, English, and Malagasy.
- Comfortable working with email, word processing, spreadsheets and financial data.
- Understand all hotel processes, including housekeeping, maintenance, and food preparation.
- Overall great communicator, with excellent people management skills (both individuals and teams).
- Demonstrated passion and self motivation with a positive and collaborative approach.
- Highly organized, with an attention to detail, planning, and time management.
- Must demonstrate emotional intelligence and high maturity.
Able to deal with pressure, work unsupervised, and readily accepts feedback and coaching.
